I read that cherries were one of the tortoise species that “tolerates fruit”. Our cherry, Bing, loves fruit above most anything else - blueberries, watermelon, cantaloupe - we feed him a mix a fruit and veg (including dandelions and other edible weeds) every day plus monkey chow every two weeks. We’ve tried some of the prepared food/pellets from our LFS but he’s not interested. I’d say 50% of his diet (8 years now) is made up of fresh fruit. Is this too much?

No
But make sure he also gets greens, flowers and some protein.
30% fruit would be better IMO
(This diet would kill some other species)
Thanks - the monkey chow is a source of protein. What other proteins do you recommend?

Papaya is a nice one to try and work into the mix, along with butternut squash.

My redfoot also loves yard weeds like dandelion and plantain, along with hibiscus flowers.

I give him mazuri or Rep-Cal 1-2 times a week.

I do animal protein once a week, in the form of egg or salmon or reptilinks... all of which he'd eat to the exclusion of everything else, even papaya.

Thanks - Bing like mango and sweet potato too but I’ll give papaya and hibiscus a try too!
