Bertha is the reason we tell people to wait AT LEAST a full day before burying or disposing of what appears to be a dead tortoise. In Bertha's case, her body COMPLETELY shut down. And then it rebooted...
Boy did it!

That is amazing!
I dont think that this tortoise is in any immediate danger of dying like Bertha was.
But I don't expect this one to ever be normal.....like I'm happy to say that Bertha IS.
I just went back and did a search.
Maybe it's been too long ago?
She is owned by another keeper now

Drum roll please.....
Exactly 40 ounces.
He (I'll refer to him now as he) drank another huge amount of carrot water and took 2 chomps of blackberry.
He also took his first poop.
A pretty good sized one.
So I'm pleased with that.
Food it and food out, checked.
All good news

That little tiny guy weighs 3 1/4 pounds?

Wow Ed, that little guy is in good hands. I commend you for saving him. I hope his progress continues. I don't know how I missed this thread. Have you named him yet? Cant wait to watch the progression.

Were they born in the United States when they came to you or were they hatch swings already porn native to where they’re from, because if one is let’s say from west Africa like my 12-year-old red foot, she’s potty trained she will only go P and poop when she’s in the tub that’s been after a long day of being out in my yard I live in Philadelphia, I made her her own obstacle courses and stuff she can lay on there she even has a little mud barrow she goes in some days, but I try and keep her out in the summertime long as possible but I will not put her out in anything less than 60° or higher, I keep power in a brand new zoo med to her ca I made her her own obstacle courses and stuff she can lay on there she even has a little mud barrel she goes in some days, but I try and keep her out in the summertime long as possible but I will not put her out in anything less than 60° or higher, I keep power in a brand new zoo med touRt cage, she needed a new one.... I don't understand the post before this one, although I tried, so can it be explained like to an idiot or placed elsewhere?

You must be talking about a different species. This thread is about a redfooted tortoise from South America, not from Africa.

About rocks and tortoise nails: the tortoise has to walk across a rough surface, like a rough BOULDER, not little rocks. Digging in dirt also helps.

He's saying his tortoise pees and poops in the soak water. He doesn't put her outside unless it's warmer than 60F. He keeps the tortoise in a medium sized Zoo Med Tortoise house,, but he needs a new one. And then goes on to express concern that he hopes Zeropilot's hatchling is going to be ok.

I use cement pads throughout my enclosure(s)
The animals file down their nails as they walk across them.
In this photo you can see a pad in front of the larger Redfoot.
Do not use rocks. They trap debris and poop. The small ones can get eaten and large ones can be unstable to walk on.
A few rocks as decoration would be ok. As long as they aren't using up too much space. The enclosure in the photo has several hundred square feet of total space.
Most Redfoot for sale here in Florida and in the U.S. in general are animals born right here.
Redfoot breed very well here. Making wild importation unnecessary and not cost effective.
Thank you for your concern for my little one.

That was an amazing come back for Bertha! If I remember rightly Ed, you were about to bury her, but noticed something about her eyes didn't you?
I couldn't believe it when you said she was alive!!
