Hello everyone!

Here is a picture of my one year old Eastern box turtles enclosure! I'm wanting to give it a makeover and make it better for her! I was hoping you guys would comment and tell me how i can improve! Her substrate is a mixture of top soil and sand, but I was thinking of adding sphagnum moss to create more humidity. I also recently bought her an aloe Vera and purple petunia plant to add to her updated enclosure! I was also thinking of adding spring tails to the substrate and making it bio active. What are some suggestions for substrate and other things you guys have?

I would suggest more hide areas. The aloe and petunia will add some cover, you can also get fake ivy vines that create cover. I've tried plastic vines from pet suppliers and fabric vines from the dollar store. With an adult box turtle they both have a limited lifespan but the plastic lasts much longer. The fabric vines fall apart from all the turtle traffic.

A bigger turtle pool. She won't ask for it, but she will appreciate it. :) A large plant saucer would work well, sunk into the substrate. Make sure she can get into and out of it easily and safely. If you go with plastic, run sandpaper over the inside to give it more texture and more traction for turtle feet. If you go with terra cotta, it should be find for traction.

You get bonus points if you put plants or a hide near the turtle pool, so your boxie feels less exposed when she takes a dip. ;)
