Hi Cindy. It sounds like you have a little cutie too. And so social that she actually likes being in an active protected area or you especially and both. So...it will take time to establish a routine between the 2 of you.

Agreed. Takes a while to learn each other. He will get used to seeing you, his enclosures, and once he understands he is safe all will be right with the world and he will be content ;). Love my shell baby

Thank you both Cathie G and Shuler24! I still have so much to learn but I think she's adorable! But I will tell you sometimes she makes me nervous when she doesn't move so I pick her up and I get the "look" like don't you know I'm sleeping!

Haha, yep! I get that look when Sheldon falls asleep early in his hide and I can’t find him...I know he is in his hide but I’m always like, did he escape?? When I pick up his hide to look in it, I get the look. If he could talk I guarantee he would say “Seriously?? You’re kidding right?”

I still get nervous even after 12 years. TFO has helped though. Having the support and real answers from all of the members helps.

Thank you! It's so funny I went into the pet store to get dog food and my sister called me over to look at the tortoise.....needless to say she's now in a better place with me!!!! And I know I shouldn't of got her from a pet store but I had no clue about a tortoise nor was I ever looking to become a tort mom lol.

If I picked up your whole house and moved it to Henderson Nevada, and then put you back in it, would that not be a pretty big change for you?

Tortoises do not generally like change, even if its change for the better. It just takes them time to get used to new things. I like Cathy's suggestion of a slow transition. Keep both enclosure going for a while and move the tortoise back and forth as needed. Start with only an hour at a time in the new larger upstairs enclosure, and gradually add more time up there day by day. Offer food in both places, and eventually, the new place will be more familiar and comfortable.
It would be for me, too, and I’m already next door in Las Vegas!

I have a Sheldon too! He loves to burrow- I was nervous the first few times I couldn’t find him!

Steppe ( for old school people) all different names, same tortoise. Even though they actually come from Afganihstan, but at the time they started importing it was not politically acceptable to call them that!
