This thread is just plain fun! I look forward to updates.

Bea, your little Nelson is beyond words adorable. And feisty. And mischievous.

Maybe you could do a video of him swimming!

I'm glad- I had fun making it!
I've also thought about trying to video him! Gotta get help from hubby for that, and he's super busy this week...but stay tuned: you never know![emoji2]

A name just came to mind! Since he is exploring so fearlessly, I was trying to think of a name of a fearless explorer or other naval character. Lord Nelson was a great and fearless British commander, and I like the name Nelson! I also like the name Nellie, if he turns out to be a girl. Besides, the baby's high ridged back resembles the hat that Admiral Nelson wore!!!! :D
So unless some other inspiration strikes, I'm calling him NELSON!!!! :)
Wonderful! (And I'm late for the christening too! ) :D

Although he's eaten the Mazuri Aquatic Turtle Diet with his breeder, the Mazuri FLOATS and he never finds it in this tank. :(

I've given him the Hikari Sinking Carnivore Wafers that Jacques grew up on (until she discovered SALM:<3:N!!! ) but he's not crazy about it. I saw him eat ONE bite of Hikari this morning, so that's a start. My cory catfish are thrilled that he can't find a bunch of the food- I won't have to feed them for DAYS at this rate...

He's not zooming around the tank like he was yesterday! He's still all over the place, but he's marching along, sniffing the gravel and checking things out in a very methodical manner! [emoji2]

Calming down is a good sign. He is getting used to his enclosure. He was like the kid entering a new house for the first time. Running around checking out his new bedroom and the back yard, etc. Once he calms down completely he should start eating. I’m sure you know this, but try feeding him more than normal amount of pellets, always in the same corner of the enclosure. Having more pellets gives him a chance to see them in one corner. Might cause the tank to be a little messy at first, but eventually he will learn that corner is a yummy corner. Love the tank set up!

Man, this little guy takes Turtle Stealth Skills to the next level.
I went to see him before going to bed last night, and couldn't find him. COULD.NOT.FIND.HIM.
This is a very light grey turtle in a tank with BLACK gravel so he should stand out like a sore thumb, right? WRONG!!!!
I looked all over the tank, I got a flashlight and looked around...no Nelson. I finally turned on all the lights on the tank, much to the alarm of the cory catfish, but still NO NELSON.
NOWHERE.
I knew he couldn't run away from home, so I figured I'd find him when he was out in the morning.
But I almost didn't find him even then!!!!

That weird water-light refraction thing makes it look like his head is off to the side!
HE'S SO CUTE: KING OF THE MOUNTAIN!!!! :<3::<3::<3:

(and you can see where I glued those 2 pebbles into the window of his cave so he can't wedge himself into it...)

Me: "NELSON! Where WERE you last night??!?!? I couldn't find you ANYWHERE!"
Nelson: "I was there."
Me: But WHERE?"
Nelson: "Just...there."
Me: "Then why didn't I see you?"
Nelson: "The Force."
Me: " 'The Force'??? What 'Force'? "
Nelson: "The Turtle Force."
Me: "What's The Turtle Force?"
Nelson: "I can't say...."
