Hello Guys,
I am a new owner of 2 baby IS, i don't know their age or gender, but one is around 3.25 inches and the other one is about 2.5.
While going thru numerous threads here i made a small enclosure in a tub 24 x 17" with coco peat and 50W UVB light.
After 2 days of drying the coco peat internally i placed the 2 stars in the enclosure today and noticed that even though they were happy in their new home the tiny particles of coco peat were sticking on their legs and as they roam around the food plate it got stuck on the food as well.

My concern is will the particles cause any resperitory and digestive problems to my tiny stars?
I am attaching few pics.

Kindly let me know what should i do.

Thanks!
Vipaul

Actually, i never fed mine with capsicum.
They love carrots, methi, coriander, cucumber, tomatoes.. except spinach and cabbage i fed them every green leafy vegetables that we eat.
Mine eats alot of veggies but I want to give alot of varieties so that they don't get habit of eating one type of dite. I usually mix alot of vegetables and make a salad for him

@Ayushjain101 bhai I had one full spectrum bulb ordered from amazon. It was mentioned as uv A and B bulb. But someone told me later that these are chinese made low graded bulbs those are actually not uv bulbs. A true uv bulb will br more than ₹2000 here in india. Now i have ordered MVB bulb. I hope this one is real bulb.

Humidity and temperature are really toughest part of keeping tortoise. In open cabinet its really tough to maintain these two.

Guys is there someone from North india who wants to adopt a star tortoise. Because of some reasons I am not able to take care of my star. If someone is ready please let me know. You need not pay anything for this. But if you need the ceramic heater and uv bulb then I shall ask some money to compensate the amount I have spent. I have been using ceramic heater for last 2 months. And never used MVB yet. Its still as it was when delivered by amazon.

If someone interested please let me know.

I am wondering what the popularity of extruded or pelleted feeds may be for your tortoises in India? Do you have ready/easy access to Mazuri/ZooMed brands from the US or some other brands from Europe, China maybe? Are they crazy expensive?

The pelleted feed aren't that famous cause they cost a lot, i get it in a store 15mins from my place, Zoomed one but the size they give, wont be enough for even one day for my 3 torts. Other brands from Europe I'm not aware off but the type is food is normally catered to torts on thier continent. Well about China, its safer to not even consider thier product. Like the zoomed one i saw was more catered to Herman torts instead of stars. They cost so much that with the cost of one bottle i get a week and a half supply of my torts veggies instead.
Hope that answered ur qs. Tc

@shanu303 Sorry for the tag. But I wanted to ask that is capsicum good for star tortoise? Should I feed him capsicums?
I currently don't have my tortoise but i never supplied anything extra for calcium or any supplement for that matter. just veggies and natural sunlight.

This answer is for all concerned about diet, supplement, water, sunlight, UVB etc.
you've got plenty to choose from, it just takes an initiative from your side to gather all these stuff... they are not hard to get or grow. if you have really decided to take care of such fragile and delicate creatures then you should be committed to hard work as well to gather the proper requirements.

=>NO need of external supplement
=>NO need of UV Bulbs
=>Natural Sunlight is sufficient
=>Sunlight should be direct and not from window glass
=>Hydration is a must
=>Water should be available is a container which the tortoise can go in and come out of easily.
=>Soak at least once a day for medium to large tortoise (15 min) twice for babies(10-15 min)
=>The water level should not be above the lower jaw of the tortoise
=>Moisten/Hydrate the shell once-twice a day by spraying it
=>Use lukewarm water in the winters for soaking and reduce soaking to alternate days and avoid spraying the shell in winters
=>Keep the tortoise in heated Room or at least where there are a lot of humans(more humans more heat) at night in winters
=>Just covering the tortoise with blanket/sweater/woollen cloth won't do anything in winters because tortoises are reptiles and reptiles are cold
blooded animals so they can't generate heat, so insulation is useless when there is no source of heat.
=>provide a sufficiently large enclosure for the tortoise ( 4 by 4 feet for small tortoise, 8 by 8 feet for medium and a garden(or 14 by 14 feet) for
adult these are the minimum dimensions if you want to keep your tortoises 100% healthy.
=>Use soil/Garden Soil as a substrate in the enclosure/house and it should be at least 4 inches deep
=>DO NOT Keep the tortoises on NEWSPAPERS
=>DO NOT keep the tortoises on uncovered(without soil substrate) glass aquarium throughout the day(they require earthy substrate bellow their
legs)
=>DO NOT keep them in plain plastic containers.
=>DO NOT keep them on naked concrete surface.
=>DO NOT keep the tortoises in plain cardboard boxes throughout the DAY. (If you can't provide a basic enclosure with proper substrate then you
shouldn't be keeping the tortoises in the first place)
=>DO NOT keep tortoises on the tiles of your homes(letting them roam free in the whole house) they can get hurt.
=>Designate an area specifically for tortoises with minimal disturbance and noise(as minimum as possible)
=>Avoid unnecessary handling of the tortoises.(Picking them, turning them on their back etc)
=>Do not take your tortoises to gardens, public gardens, public places in INDIA (THEY ARE BANNED) and one more reason is the garden might be fertilised using chemicals.

TORTOISES ARE NOT DOGS, CATS, HAMSTER, BIRDS etc(Conventional Pets) SO DO NOT TREAT THEM LIKE ONE.

KEEP TO THESE BASIC POINTERS AND YOU WON'T NEED:
SUPPLEMENTS
UV BULBS
CUTTLE FISH BONES
and hopefully a VET :) (Because it is near to impossible to find qualified Vets who treat reptiles and besides Keeping tortoises is not allowed in INDIA)

I have two stars and im from kolar,karnataka.
Here the climate is around 27°C -- 32°C..
And i have my stars in my terrace which gets good amout of sunlight.
They have hiding spots too and there's a substrate of sand and mud mixture for 5*8 feet area and the remaining is of concrete..

This is lucky..
She's elder than chikky.
She weighs around 1800gms.
She's very shy.
She hides and doesnt come out most of the day.
But in the morning and evening times She comes out and will b moving here n there for food.

Both are female and i want to know when to know tht my lucky is matured and ready to lay eggs.

If mating doesnt occur also i have read tht she will lay unfertilized eggs, is it true??

Can any of the star owners have male star tortoise nearby to kolar for mating for my lucky..
