Hi. How about some more information so we can help better? Like, what kind of tortoise is he? Temperature and humidity in his enclosure or is he always outdoors and what's the weather like now in Louisiana? Can we see some pictures? We would love to help!

He needs calcium dusted once a week and finely chopped grass added to his diet. You’ll need to cover your top and get your cool end warmer since he’s a hatchling. His humidity also shouldn’t dip below 80%. Read the sulcata care sheet it’s super helpful.

Yea he gets calcium on his Mazuri food. Humidity goes from 80 on cool side to 50ish on dry. The humidity in my house dont drop low. I live in south Louisiana. He gets spray few times a day a few seconds a time. My dog eat his Monitor for his humidity. I just have not git him a new one. I could use the one from my crested cage for now. He is on a bio active tank.
I am nearly all grocery greens so have an somewhat elaborate feeding regime, but get great results.

Here is a power point I recently did on both what I feed, and a few slides on other nutrient considerations.

Ok, your tort is going to be in trouble if you don’t make some changes. Baby salcatas temps should never drop below 80 with a basking are of at least 95 to 100. The substrateshould be damp throughout the entire enclosure. Humidity should not be below 80% or higher. In order to get this, the enclosure needs to be closed. The way you are keeping him now will lead to a possible respiratory infection. It could cause his death. Please read our care sheet in the salcata section and make the changes you need. Even though the humidity is higher in Gonzales, it still needs to be controlled in the enclosure.
On another note, my mother’s family in from Gonzales! I sure miss the south some times.

A few thoughts...

1. Mazuri is a decent diet and can be 100% of the diet. You can add some 'real food' if you want, and some diet experts recommend a 50/50 split of Mazuri and 'real food'. Mazuri is flexible enough that you can offer it as 100% of the diet, or as 75%, 50%, 25% or 0% as you wish.

2. Mazuri has vitamins and minerals added, so you don't need more.

3. Mazuri packages tell you how much to use- follow their guidelines.

4. No one mentioned it here, but do not soak Mazuri pellets- it draws out some of the nutrients, etc. Even little torts can eat the dry pellets- just break them up for them. (Source: Mazuri's site- which has a LOT of great info!)

I think you're asking for trouble if you allow the enclosure to be cool and humid. My baby enclosures are kept at an all over temperature of 80 to 85F degrees. . . no hot side, no cool side.

And where are your baby's hiding places? Baby tortoises are prey, and like to hide from predators.
