Hi @jblandon

While I appreciate the info you posted, it is generally considered "uncouth" to drive readers away from one forum to a competing forum. Yes, you are a competitor to this forum. The moderators here might give you a pass, but just letting you know that what you're doing is generally frowned upon by most mods. I'm sure you wouldn't want folks here driving traffic away from your site. Best of luck with your blog though! ;)

Actually, in my opinion, one can't have too much info on turtles and tortoises! I have enough confidence in the info found here that we won't lose members if they read other sites. So, I'll play along:

8. It's very peaceful to sit and watch them
9. They don't care if you have bad breath
10. If it's feeding time they're very happy to see you
Anyone??

Thanks Yvonne. Don't want to appear like I'm overstepping any bounds. I just know that other forums I belong to really frown on it.

Can I take mine on the airplane and call him my emotional service companion? Hey . . . they've allowed pot-bellied pigs and llamas. I've got rights too, ya know.
Emotional support animals are not covered by the ADA and cannot legally fly on planes or go into restaurants. Only service animals in performance of their duties get those privileges.

I know you were joking… :)

Yes, stated with a bit of sarcastic humor. I do, however, believe that the plethora of species certified as "ADA approved" has been carried to the extreme in today's permssive society. Shucks, I'm a one legged Vietnam veteran, what should I choose as my service animal? Oh, that's right . . . I have no handicap . . . except on the golf coarse.

Actually, a few days ago I heard on the news that many airlines are going to limit emotional support animals to only dogs and cats. Recently, a woman somewhere wanted to bring her peacock!

The only rights that are given with emotional support animals are the ability to live in places that do not usually allow such animals. For example, apartments and dorm rooms. Besides that they are just a pet.

While service animals, which are pretty much limited to dogs and miniture horses, have all kinds of rights, they have laws supporting them to be with their human, because they are there to help mitigate a physical handicap.

The problem comes up is when people with ESA abuse their rights and make it difficult for people with service animals. I believe within the next few years we are going to be seeing a change in how people are allowed to label ESA and service animals.

Society is growing is such an interesting way with how we treat our animals as a whole, creating such a vast opportunity for both human and animal, and it's going to be exciting to watch it all unfold!!

12. They taught me all about my local weeds and plants and how to cultivate them.

I'll second this, never thought I'd be into gardening, now i have planter boxes all over and even started cultivating plants my tortoise cannot eat, which means I'm growing them for no other reason than that I like them... The horror.

#15 I'll add that my tortoises have made my schedule absolutely rigid, and i have become more efficient and better at time management.
