how can I tell if my red foot is a male or female. We have had him/her for two years :) also another question, we occasionalu find him/her on their side as they have fallen over trying to climb down their hide. What can we do to prevent this? Thankyou! Oh and I’m new :) ans this is our first tortoise

Hello, welcome. If you post pics of the bottom of your tortoise and it's tail and post them, some of the more experienced keepers here could tell you. If it's old enough. Also to prevent em from flipping like that a lot of people just block that area with like a brick or something so he won't be able to climb there.

It’s funny from some angles I’d guess male but then a few appeared more female. It appears his carapace is getting concave though? If so I’d lean male but it’s hard to tell and I’m new to red foot sexing.

If you lay him on his back it’ll show his carapace and tail better but he’s also young to sex and could change a lot in a year.

It appears that this tortoise is pyramiding very badly. Could we see pictures of the enclosure? What’s it’s humidity?
Please give these a read, and come back with questions-

I thought pyramiding was when the scutes stuck up?
He’s in a tortoise table but we can put him in an enclosed tank although it’s rather small, we could get him a larger one soon. He doesn’t have water in his table instead he goes in a bath every day for some time. He has it originally but never went in it or drank and seemed dry. This way he gets enough. He has cooked liver every week, pellets always available and fresh greens :) I’ll post a pic of the table when we get back but it’s just a regular one with a closed off section

His pyramiding isn’t horrible but will continue in an open table. Open tables more importantly though can’t maintain heat and RF’s like temps 80-85 degrees.

Its not bad, you can use a shower curtain or garbage bag over your open top to hold in humidity. That would be better than a tank

Definitely read those links and make changes, if you haven’t already.
You definitely need a closed chamber, and you absolutely need a water bowl. In fact, it would be better to have at least two.
You need to have 80% humidity and above at all times, with heat that ranges from 80-86 degrees.

The carapace is the top shell and the plastron is the bottom shell.

It's the plastron or bottom shell that sometimes gets a bit concave in males.:)
