I think I know enough about Russian tortoises to direct someone who did little to no research
That is extremely rude, I have been researching tortoise care for years as I have wanted one extremely, I read that they need UVB lights... which I got... the internet said nothing about all of the things you lot have been telling me. The pet shop didn’t tell me about all of that even though I asked many questions. So you obviously don’t know me, so don’t go around judging me like that! And my tortoise seems very happy and active thank you very much, he’s fine!

I do raise Russians and can tell you what has been said on here is right. Pet shops want to sell, they don’t have the updated info on torts. They pass a lot of bad info. The internet is the same way. People on this site have successfully raised torts for many years and have already gone through all the trials. They are only trying to help you and the tort.

Holly: Your subject title is telling us you're new and you want help. The others who have posted in this thread are offering you help. We can't help it if you spent lots of money on the wrong stuff.

Read the care sheet at the top of our Russian section, and make your changes slowly, as you can afford to. Most important is the UVB light. For a russian tortoise, the humidity isn't as important as for a sulcata, and your hiding places will do just fine. All you have to do is moisten the substrate. I don't know if beech chips will mold when moistened. Some sort of cover over the habitat will hold in the moisture and keep the cool air from the house out.

Don't get upset with us. Just remember, pet stores are in business to sell things and make money. We're not. We're here to offer you the benefit of our experience.
