The county is planning to widen my street, and they are trying to decide whether to move my driveway 10' north of where it is now, off the side street, or cut it in off of the main street, where my address is. So I was hoping to not have to repair the Aldabran tortoise's fence until the final plan was set and I knew where the driveway is going to be. But every morning when I go out there it looks like it's leaning further and further, so today I decided I have to do something about it.

I wasn't even out there five minutes when SO decided it looked pretty interesting, what I was doing.

Temporary fence up. Tomorrow when I go into town to run errands I'll be buying some wire to replace the string that's holding it up right now.

I have plenty of scrap lumber, so I'm going to repair the fence with scrap and then use new lumber when I know where my driveway is going to go.

I will have the option of accepting the money they think it's worth, or having them do the work.

I have a bad feeling that both options may not be so satisfactory.

I'm going to price what it will cost me to move the fence, plus build a new fence wherever the new driveway is going to be; how much it would cost for road base and DG on a new driveway (and labor of course), and whatever else expense it would be, just so I'm fairly well-versed in the appx. amount it would all cost.

Any update on the fence? So hopeful that the city will make you an awesome one.

Construction is scheduled for 2018. Right now they're in the right-of-way stage.

I would let the County replace it. If you do it yourself the responsibility is than on you to get any needed permits or whatever, and then you have to make sure it is done right, and the contractor will need to make a profit out of what the county offers you. I would leave any possible headaches to the county .

I was leaning in that direction.

Seems like anything the city/state/county do around here takes forever. I hope it goes quickly for you and they don't take too much of your property.

I have lots of unproductive opinions about the government taking land from folks.
