I've owned my Hermanns, Ella, for basically 7 months now. Ella being my first Tort, I've observed her during the winter and now going into the summer months. I bought Ella from Petsmart, so I didn't have the pleasure of raising her from a hatchling. I know Hermanns are not the most active Torts and especially females and they're less active during the winter.
Even though she lives indoors, my wife and I notice she is more active when its a nice day. I have her "sun" scheduled to be on from 7am-8pm. Normally she will get up around 9-10am and will go back to bed between 1-3ispm. So on a good day she is up for about 6 hours. She seems to becoming more active now during the summer months (even though shes inside). During the 6ish hours shes up, thats when she gets soaked and fed and typically we don't wake her back up once she goes back to bed.

I was wondering what other Hermanns do on a daily basis...How long during the day is your tort up and about? What is your torts daily routine? How long do they sleep?

My female Hermanns, Falafel, is actually super active in comparison to my Greek! She is housed outdoors during the nice months, and this time of year she spends a lot of her day climbing the sides of her pen, and wandering around. She digs quite a bit, too. She comes out around 9am when I'm bringing breakfast out, sleeps through the heat of the day (like 1-4ish, 5ish) and then wanders around more until it starts getting dark, which this time of year is 8:30, 9.

My Greek, by comparison, comes out to eat around the same time, basks, and then goes back to sleep in his hut.

My 3 month old Hermann wakes up every day around 7:30 - 8 AM whether it's by his own doing or me waking him up before I leave for work. I'll feed him after his soak and then he'll do some investigating in his enclosure. After he gets tired, he'll chill out under the heat lamp for a while and will call it a day around 1 - 1:30 PM. Every now and then he'll hear me come home and he'll poke his head out to say a quick hello, but he'll go right back to bed afterwards. He often picks a different spot to sleep depending on the temperature in the enclosure

Sometimes when I work from home during the week, I get to see Ella while she's up. My wife and I get cracked up when Ella is restless, because she can't decide what she wants to do. You will watch her go to her room, then a little while later she will be walking to another area where she sleeps. One time when I worked from home I saw her walk back and fourth about 5 times haha. I just see this tortoise in the corner of my eye, walk/wobbling back and forth lol
