My tortoises Stella and Nova are taking liquid Baytril for a RI. The first 2 does went fine. But the last two doses Nova had, she flipped out after she got it. It was like she was on steroids. She was moving so quickly and running wildly. It was really weird. Stella doesn't seem to like it but hasn't had this kind of reaction. I have been reading different things about negative effects of Baytril. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Should I be worried? She really needs this antibiotic!

don't feel bad you didn't know you're only trying to help

I know. It's just like human babies. I wish you could explain to them that you are just trying to help them get better. But they just can't understand. Now they'll know me as "the mean lady with that horrible stuff!"

My tort was getting Baytril injections, after couple he started to get itchy and started scratching his neck against his shell. He scratched it raw. It's not the only antibiotic for torts, ask the Vet to change it if you see they are not handling it well.

My tortoise received 6 days of Baytril injections (1 per day) two weeks ago. Now we are doing the oral liquid for him. But he is scratching his head against his shell as well. What did you end up doing for this?

Switch the antibiotic to another, that is an allergic reaction. Neck wound had healed eventually and the scratching stopped couple days after last dose of Baytril. I first noticed as you did, that injections were very painful for mine little leo Nini. It's popular antibiotic for torts and I did not know better then. I would not administer it ever again. Hugs for your tortie;)

I'm happy to know that for next time, but unfortunately, my tortoise passed away today. :( thank you for the information though.
