South Florida. They have my yard to graze in. I supplement feed with Mazuri tortoise chow, assorted greens, seasonal fruits and veggies. They eat whatever falls off my fruit trees, and I always give them the carcasses whenever I go spearfishing. We have heat and humidity year round. Redfoots do well down here.
So as far as diet goes you feed everything in moderation with a vast veriety.
For heat you have natural sun rays.
For hydration you obviously have the natural high humidity, do or did you do forced soaks with this tort. If so how often?
Sorry to badger you with all these questions.

I provide water, I soak them maybe 3 times yearly. Every 3 to 4 months I round up everyone, give them a soak, treat anything that needs it (shell rot) and look for ticks, or mites, check their weight, thats about all i have to do. They have 3 connected yards. Going to partition it soon to seperate groups, but for now, the whole herd roams the yard.

This girl I've had since 2002. She was part of my original group. I don't have much info on her origins, but she was purchased fully grown in a 1:3 breeder group. I believe she was probably an import rather than captive bred.
On this female you can see that at the scute boarders she has flatter wider growth (im assuming this was a change in care in her life). Is this growth from when you had her.
Amazing torts you have.

Ok, your care seems spot on. One more question. Any chance of a photo from the side showing her domed carapace profile.
She looks to have 1 growth ring for every 2yrs ish. Do they pig out on friut at certain periods of the year?
Sorry that was 2 questions. :D

I'm new here. Have no idea if I'm posting in the right area. I think my red foot is about 6 months old. Just got her Sunday. She's eaten some Monday but it's now going on Thursday and nothing. She's been exclusively in her hide. Just soaked her in warm water for about 15 minutes. She perked up but no eating and back in hide after trying to dig under it (see pic). I've offered spring mix, spinach, kale, romaine, bell pepper, hibiscus leave, parsley. She did eat some romaine on Monday. No pooping either. I'm scared she's going to die. Breeder said she was very active. Can keep temps about 88 and humidity only about 50-60%. I tried turning light off at night hoping it wld help but don't think it makes a difference. I attached a pic of set up. I put paper in the front as I know glass isn't the best but wanted to see how she would do with it. She was trying to dig at it so the paper has helped I guess since she's been in her hide since. Help!!

You should post this in its own thread. It would be more widely viewed that way. There are some knowledgeable keepers on this forum. Id say keep it as hydrated and warm as possible, and keep offering a variety of food. Sometimes it takes a while for them to settle in. It's completely normal for a stressed animal to hide and not eat for a couple days. Give it a soak in warm water daily, put him in the basking spot, then offer food. Not sure for indoor setups. Mine are all outdoor.

Hi there Ashley. Welcome. You need to start a thread in the introduction section introducing yourself, then help will arrive.
It's perfectly normal for a new Tortoise to hide and go on hunger strike when it's in a new environment for a week or so, they need time to adjust.
Start a thread and add photos so we can see your setup and Tortoise.

Hey Anyfoot ..

One of my hatchlings - on the cover of Nov. / Dec. 2015 REPTILES magazine -

Read all about how I care for them.. since 1998 to produce 2nd generation ( F2 ) .

Ever seen a BLACK Brazilian - aka cherryhead?!

They look good, is the black redfoot a one off, or do you produce them regularly.
Will I still be able to get a copy of that reptiles magazine?

Anyfoot the "Black-Cherry" usually showed up about 20% of the time.. with varying degrees of "no-red".

Yes ... these came from my Brazilian pair -

I called this one "Cinnamon" ... sure wish I had kept him...
