Hi Guys, I'm looking around for a better supplier for my enclosure lighting/heating stuff. Big box stores charge 65$ for 100w CHE the kind I use. MVB about this same. I use strip light for UVB and cheap basking bulb. Want to have couple of extras on hand for emergencies and especially when the outdoor house goes up I'll need couple of CHE's there and thermostat. Already having spent way more than anticipated I'd like to limit the spendings when possible without sacrificing quality. Where do you buy your CHE/UVB elements, thermostats?

Yeap! I'll be looking, or... better yet! have my daughter (the TORTS' MOM) look at the sites you guys have suggested. As I've mentioned in the CD-R thread, I like to be prepared for little emergencies and have spare stuff:) thanks again

Thanks for that, took my daughter shopping last night and got one 60w for 34.99$ at Petco, no time to wait for eBay shipping. I'll run it concurrently with the other CHE that's already there. It's gotten cooler outside and it seems to affect the temps inside the tank. I'll have to insulate the 3 sides of it with the insulation material I used to cover the top.
The bottom of the substrate is pretty wet (one of my twins forgot to turn off the fogger, it was on for couple of hrs, used up entire water bottle!:) so it's VERY HUMID now. The substrate surface is not wet (about 4-5 in thick) but still with 90% humidity I worry about even slightest drop in temperature. Right now I have 2 CHE's going at night, 100w in the middle of the tank and 60w over the hide area. The temps are 82-84F and 79F at the lowest substrate level (there are little hills and valleys there).
I'll still look into eBay for the spares. Thanks again

Goodness, this is just their nursery, it's a 40 gal breeder. Got them as tiny 2in hatchings at the end of June. This is why I'm preparing to spring into action with the outdoor place to start transitioning them. Btw the current wattage including the added source is more then enough to keep the temps the way I like but I'll still go ahead and cover the 3 sides and see what happens.

Ha-ha, I wasn't questioning the size, I was just curious if you had enough wattage.
100+60w is a lot for that size. Are they both on stats and is your enclosure open or closed type?

No I'm not worried about the size either as for now the babies are small and I have the time to prepare the nice proper place. Heat/humidity at this time are most inmportant and they get daily dose of excercise outside the tank. What I had in mind was just how much wattage this size tank would take to keep it warm. The tank is in my daughter's room and I don't think the builder did a very good job on insulating this house. Our windows are the original too (19 yrs old!) so despite central heat in the house set on 68 in winter I'm convinced that this particular room is cooler than that. Different areas of the house feel differently depending on exposure, size of the windows etc. So yes, for just 40 gal tank, with covered (not sealed, just covered) top 100watt CHE would not get the temp to even 80F down close to substrate level. The air higher up in the tank is in high 80's but I always worry about the babies' bellies being cold. Always check them for runny noses and watch them breathe and stuff. Overprotective? Maybe!

Not over protective, its what we all should be like.
We don't talk gallon tanks over here, you can fit 40gal in many shapes. Lol. So need some help here, is 40gal 18x36x18" in dimensions? My enclosure is twice that size and I have 1 150w CHE. It runs, I reckon 50% of the time at the most. Yeah it is in a warm room, but that surprised me you can't get 80 to 88f with 1 100w CHE. Are you sure your 100w CHE is working correctly?

I got one for $7 with free shipping on ebay. At first I was suspicious because it was so cheap, but it's been working great for over a year.

Hi Guys, found 60w one on sale for 15.99$ at petsmart yesterday and grabbed it. I'm returning the one to the pricegougers-Petco (35$!!! for 60w). Have not had a chance to get online (ebay/amazon) yet, but I will be getting my supplies from there from now on I think

Hi, I'll measure the tank later getting kids off to school now. The room where the tank is always feels very cold and at night it's nice for the human bundled in nice thick down comforter, but I think that's why so much heat loss. The CHE is working, I checked. This drives me crazy! I put 3 extra digital thermometers in different places at the substrate level. I changed the lamp shades a little, put the 100w in the wider dome hopefully to have the heat dispersed in wider angle but also had to cut out new opening in the top insulation cover and did half-a.... job at it. I'll have to tear the whole off and just put a new one on. This one I'll be sure to seal every hole. Thank you so much for trying to help me. It means a lot to me.

I also bought two off ebay for like $4 each and they have been working great for months now. I was very suspicious also, but now I'm back looking for more like these. You don't always have to buy expensive name brands to get a good value. :)

I have a Che bulb coming from Amazone, 100 watts, for under $20.
