Curious... What camera are you using? I shoot with a canon 5D mark2 and I use a telephoto lens with a f2.8 and my photos are somewhat similar so I was curious :) your photos are fantastic and your babies are adorable! Also this thread totally answered my cactus pad eating question with my young one ;) so thanks

This is my exact set-up! The price is crazy and image quality is just as good as with the $3000 Nikon I was looking at...

As cactus pads go...I stopped grinding them...I trim the edge off all the way around so they smell the pulp inside...and now the 8s are destroying a mature pad overnight!

LOL I wish that price was crazy! The lens I have for my family photography business cost me 2300!! lol. But that is a nice little set up you got there and I like that the rebels allow you to change out lenses! Nice!

My little girl is only weighing in at about 41 grams at the moment, and she is about two and a third inches long. I got her from a pet store about a week ago. She's been eating like a mad woman (I know you can't tell if its a girl or boy so Im just calling her that ;) ) Anyhow, I just finally got all the thermostats and heating elements set up with the timers and all and now I am waiting for her to grow. I have her in a 55 gallon tank, but I am about to get hooked up with a 75 gallon that I want to cover in plexiglass to hold the humidity :D Lets see if that works out lol

Here are the 8s soaking this morning! They run from 189g to 246g. The three largest are right at 3.75" and the other five are all at 3.5". I am really preoccupied shooting the ITs and MONSTRO! I'll get some detailed stuff up of the 8s soon!

As promised...here's a handful of shots of the 8s! Today I got little surprise...6 of them are over 200g now. Yesterday, it was three! Not really that big a deal...the other three are closing in on 190. The largest is 261g...these guys (gals) are growing CRAZY fast!

Here's the five largest in descending order...ranging from 261g down to 202g.

...and the three 'smaller' specimens (ranging from 188g down to 182)IMG_3216[1].JPG IMG_3222[1].JPG IMG_3230[1].JPG

Wow, that's BIG! My RF is a month younger than them and just hit the 100g mark this week! I know it's apples and oranges, but I can't believe they're more than double his size!

The latest antics from the 8s...they were introduced to tuna (prickly pear cactus fruit). Then, since I have more fruit than I know what to do with, I pulverized it and added it to their Mazuri/hay mix...

They are all between 4.15" and 4.62", the smallest weighing 286 grams and the largest 364 grams. The remaining 6 are all over 300 grams...and not even six months old yet!

Here's a shot of the 8s soaking this morning. You'll notice a nice, shiny quarter soaking with them...just to give you a better idea of their current lengths! These guys (gals) are growing better than any I've had before! The largest ones are only an inch shorter than IT-2...and 11 months younger!

@Tom ...you really should have a peek at the previous post. Their size is amazing at 6 months. I believe the first ones pipped out 6 months ago today! And YES! A visit is long overdue! :D

Hi Dean. I'm guessing RHP is a reptile heat pad. Is this the same as Toms?

Is your indoor enclosure set up on the same principle as Toms indoor enclosure?

@Tom (and anyone else that might be interested)....here are a few shots of the 8s from today! I'm astonished that there are still no breakout animals here. There is only a .4" difference between the largest and smallest...though there is almost a 100 gram difference in weight! Regardless, this is the most fun I've had with ANY of the tortoises I've ever raised!

This one is the smallest of the bunch at 4.4" and weighs 321 grams
IMG_7839.JPG

4.75" 369 gramsIMG_7842.JPG

4.5" 381 gramsIMG_7845.JPG

This is the largest at 4.8" and 419 gramsIMG_7846.JPG
4.75" 391 grams
IMG_7849.JPG

4.5" 370 gramsIMG_7850.JPG

4.75" 388 gramsIMG_7851.JPG

Last...but definitely not least...is the second smallest. She has kind of a lazy left eye! When she wakes from a nap....it's slow to open. And, shen active and wide open...it's not jet black but more of a gray-black...just something different! It does not detract from her activity level. In fact, she remains the most active of the herd! 4.5" 350 gramsIMG_7853.JPG
