I am very proud of my two Sulcatas for sticking with their all grass and weeds diet. Yoshi is 8 months old and King Koopa is 10 years old. I live in a very dry and in winter very cold climate. I decided I would try to freeze grass and weeds in freezer bags to stockpile for winter months ahead. This works great for me! I have tested frozen grass from a month ago and my tortoises absolutely love it. I have over 30 gallon size freezer bags full in my deep freezer and am hoping this along with what else I collect will get us through the winter without changing their diet. :)

This is a great idea. I didn't think grass would freeze and not get slimy after thawing it. Will have to try and do this myself, thanks.
Anything special I need to do to it first or just put into bags and into freezer?

I made sure I got all the air out of the bag before closing. Also, I did nothing special to thaw the grass out. It only takes a few minutes to do so on its own.

So how did freezing change the consistency of the grass? Also, did you just simply squeeze the air out of the bag or do you use a vacuum sealer?

I thought you might be interested to know there is a member on the forum that dehydrates and re-hydrates his lawn clippings. Here's a link to one of his posts if you're curious...http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/my-young-sulcatas-winter-diet-worked.115259/ I'm testing that out this year and will test out freezing grass as well. Thanks for sharing:)

My tortoise does not mind the consistency of the grass and I cannot tell a difference myself. The dandelions and clovers are slightly soggy but they still munch it right down. I do not own a vacuum seal so I just squeezed the air out. I thought about dehydrating but this works so well for me that I will stick to freezing this year.
