Ok, another ewwww !
I knew it came from a cuttle fish, but I though the bones were smaller
and compressed in the form at a factory or something. ~~~

we get loads out of the cuttlefish we use for fishing bait. you have to be care full taking them out or they end up covered in ink. they wash up on the beaches during the summer months where i live. they come here to mate and lay their eggs dying afterwards. i think they look like aliens with them eyes.

Cuttlefish are really cool. I watched a documentary once about them.
They have these AWESOME cells that allow them to morph colors and shapes in seconds.
*Most cuttlefish that have cuttlebone's harvested from them are found dead in fishing nets or raised on a farm for food, then you know, killed, but cuttlefish are 'threatened' on the ICUN red list, so harvesting from wild animals is discouraged :)

I have no problem with the farm raised or washed up ones. I wonder how you tell where the ones you buy come from??

I have a newfound respect for the lowly cuttle fish. I still can't get my head round the fact that my tort munches quite happily on this or just how ignorant I have been, never before questioning just what it actually is!! This is just another reason why I love this forum :)
