Hi All,

Sadly my tort was attacked by my mums dog who I was looking after. The tortoise was I thought in a safe place well away from the dog but some how he got him one morning which was horrible. The tortoise seemed to be doing really well and has had vet treatment and I have been cleaning the wounds daily.

My sister in law took him while the dog was still here to care for him and he was doing well. She reported he was off food for a couple of days (which he sometimes is) when I collected him I thought he had an eye infection do took him straight to specialist vet. She said he had a slight infection but not too bad. However she wanted to keep him in as his beak is a little over grown. He has had cuttlefish since I have had him (5 mnths) but not sure if he had it before, he rarely will touch the one I have given him.

Since being back from the vets he is just not himself. She was unable to file his beak as he would contsantly hide. He seemed better before the vets than after! I'm wondering if it caused him distress. He is sleeping nearly all day, I fed him today to make sure he ate and he did but he doesn't seem bothered about finding it for himself.

I am still treating his wounds and now eye drops.

Anyone got any advice. Am so worried about him.:(

Oh that is terrible! I feel so bad for you & your tort! I'm not the one to give you experienced advice so I'll leave that to the others, but I REALLY hope that everything turns out okay & your tortoise recovers! Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about this! :( You don't mention his temps or the amount of light he's getting. Could you tell us a little about how you're currently keeping him?

That is terrible...I am sorry for your little ones trauma....I would call the vets office and ask them if they keep a heated cage for him while he was there...sometimes they do not do that...terrible.

I too would like to know what your temps and housing is like while he is healing from the outward wounds and the severe trauma from being in the mouth of death...that can in itself cause severe emotional distress....

He has a tortoise table which he seems settled in he has a day glow heat lamp in one. I am current getting him a creamic heat lamp for the night to keep him warm as it is starting to get chilli and he can't hibernate.

The damage is 5 small puncher wounds. He was attacked 3 weeks ago by a daucshound and was doing well. It seems he has become quiet from the visit from the vet. I'm not sure if this stressed him out as she wanted to trim his beak and couldn't (perhaps the pulling about upset him) or his eye infection has made him worse. Although this is not bad at all and I am treating eyes and wounds daily. He could be trying to keep warm as he is sleeping by his lamp but the house is far from cold and temps in his table are ok.

He seems to be moving much more slowly and seems weak when he walks. I feed him yesterday as he is not looking for food, which he ate.
