Looks like it could be a three toed box turtle. If it is, it will have three toes on the back feet instead of four.

It's hard to tell at that size. It could either be a gulf coast or a three toe. (Terrapene carolina major or Terrapene triunguis)

It's a pretty little box turtle. The coloring is very light, almost like caramel. Tell us more about it.

It is a 3 toed box turtle. Just picked it up today. It is over 3 years old and not taken care of AT all. One back foot has no toes and it tail is gone and its shell is deformed. Never had heat or uvb and only feed tortoise food. It's cage was molded and nasty. Cage is cleaned and dirt and sand mix in it water and clean food bowl and a hide. I have read up on these guys but any info, help would be appreciated.

That's sad, I'm glad it is in your hands now! I'm very visually oriented, would you post a picture of its home? There are some very experienced people here who can offer advise.

This is it for now. I have a 40 gallon breeder tank that my husband is going to build and double stand for. I will get some pics of him later and post them.

Nice pen! You did your homework. Just watch the temperature while its still in that small tank. Dont let it overheat. I see what you mean about the shell. Are there any problems you can see other than the shell shape? Is it fully mobile? Investigate metabolic bone disease for some clues of what to look for.

Did you see my other pictures? Does it look like it has metabolic bone disease to you?

I think so. I really don't like the left rear leg condition. This is the leg with no toes, right? The tissue near the end of the leg is darker than further up. I suspect poor circulation and necrosis in this area, maybe this happened in the tail too. You are already giving it UV, give it good foods, @ColleenT linked to some good nutrition. I like to feed fresh North American berries, fruit and earthworms, but also buy frozen butternut squash, berries and mango to feed.
