What Is Wrong With The System?

Hi everyone.

I have recently been receiving the same thread "millions" of times. There's definitely something wrong with the system.

As a result, I get 135, 140, and so on new alerts each and every day, to then find that the new alerts are three or four only!

Is anyone else facing this problem?

They are still there and the mods should be up by now. It's 11 am in California! Last night I had to go the third page of the General Discussion to find a real thread. Does anyone know what those posts translate to?

I stuck one of them through Google Translate and it was Chinese trying to sell (presumably fake) university diplomas

I suspect English speakers realise they need genuine diplomas. In China a diploma from a foreign university looks good and they probably don't always check to see if it's genuine.

It won't be aimed at anyone outside China.

It's just a bot, a computer program, spreading links to websites as much as possible to boost the website's position in the search engine rankings. TFO has a high number of genuine readers and therefore links on here count better than links on lesser websites.

As far as I know, none of us Mods are getting them. We get a lot of those same spammers every day, hundreds.
When you get something like that it's best to alert one of us mods right away so we can try and get @Josh on it. He is the only person that can fix it.
The active mods to alert are Jacqui, Yvonne G, Jaizei, dmmj, Wellington and of course alert Josh or send a pm to one or all of us.

There were some on the forum, 6 today that got thru. 182 that did not get thru to the open forum all this a.m. I have not yet gotten any pm or alerts from one of those spammers or any spammer.

Are these showing up in your "alerts" box only or are you all just coming across them as you scroll thru the forum?
Also, once we spam and delete them, you don't still see them do you?

I just posted on the 'Has the site been hacked' thread that I can still see 5 individual posts in Chinese. On my phone they are in my 'timeline' this morning 6am Eastern time there were so many I stopped scrolling. I pm'd @Yvonne to let her know not expecting a reply as I assume you all were VERY busy!
