What is the best substrate for a Russian tortoise

I'm currently using calcium sand but I want to change, what should I use

Like I said earlier, it needs to be something that holds moisture to raise humidity.

It also needs to be free from chemical fertilisers and rocks, perlite, vermiculite or anything else that your tortoise might be tempted to eat.

Orchid bark or coco coir from a garden store fit the bill nicely.

Ive added orchid bark in my amazon basket and I'm off to the bank to put money in my account to buy it.

When you use it, you will need to add water to it and mix it with your hands thoroughly to make it evenly damp (not wet - so go carefully) :)

Is a damp going to be okay for a Russian

Found some orchid bark and put it in his table

Have you dampened it?

That basking lamp needs to hang straight down - not be at an angle. You need a temperature of 35C/95-100F directly underneath it.

It came in the bag damp and thanks for that I must have knocked the lamp when cleaning him out
