For past 2 days one of my tortoises was trying to get something off his rear leg and scratching the back of his shell against a rock. It was fun to watch. Always dirty from burrowing for the night, dirt must be itching I figured. Today he kept at it more frequently and seemed irritated, time for a soak to loosen up whatever it is. About to put him back after his soak I turned him over and, aha moment, a big coconut husk chip was stuck deep inside his rear leg socket. It was wedged there so hard, I had to use a help of another person and tweezers to get it out in pieces. Inside of the leg socket is little pink but its all good. Few more days could be a different story. Moral of the story, I shall not make fun when a tortoise is telling me, dude something is wrong I am not putting on a performance for your entertainment.

Poor baby. Looks like 'daddy' needs to have a few more lessons in turtle-speak.
