I want a name for my little leopard tort. I want a name in Swahili that fits. The name should work for male and female since I don't know the gender yet... and won't know for a long time.

So far, the best alternative is Mkondo. According to Africanlanguages/swahili mkondo means tortoise, but every other place when I google, says mkondo means stream or creek or some other word like that.

Any ideas would be helpful!

SPOT. It's a Swahili word and it means a bowl, a mongrel dog or a mountain range.
Just kidding.
Can't help with the Swahili, but I really love the name Spot. And it's a Leopard Tortoise, right, so it fits.

I think kobe is more towards turtle, but not every language will distinguish between the two. Kobe is too close to Kobe Bryant... and being male.
I have considered Madoa meaning spots or marks... sounds non-gender.
Nzuri is a bit too female (Mazuri means good).
Shupavu means tough, strong, hard, obstinate, stubborn. He is a little of both or all.
Chui means leopard.

It isn't easy looking for a name when you have no idea what gender the little one has... and using a language you don't know.
