Hi i'm hoping somebody can help me here. I did read some previous posts to gather a bit of imformation but still find myself slightly confused... My russian tortoise just sleeps all the time and has done for a week now and feels underweight.. So i thought maybe as some previous posts mentioned he might be preparing to hibernate, however i have another russian tortoise in the same tabletop enclosure the same age that is stil active and eating and moving about as normal.. Does anyone have any idea why 1 would sleepall day and the other not? It also takes him a while to open his eyes after a deep sleep?! but when he does they are clear and fine with no problems, is that normal??

Can you tell us a little bit more about your set up - especially the temps?

Hi edwardianson:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know your name and where you are?

No, its not normal for a tortoise to sleep all the time. Is it a very young baby?

Please tell us a bit more about how you have the tortoise set up...maybe even a picture or two of the set up.

One very outgoing and eating and acting like a tortoise should....
One very shy and introverted not acting like a tortoise should....
hmmm, first thing that pops in my head is potential bullying going on?
What is their size in comparison to one another....
Have you always housed them together....
Did you have one first then add the other....

:D

the amount of light they get and temps play a big part.. age and individuals vary as well.. tha being said.. it could be a health issue, so i would hesitate allowing that one to hibernate... up the temps, and make sure thier lights are on at least 13 hours.. maybe even longer..
