I wash going to get a mercury bulb or higher Watts but my dome is 5.5 inchs and only goes up to 60W. Do you know how much heat a 50W bulb would go up to?The first picture is ok I think The second may be bad.
Are you talking about the Zoo med UVB bulb?Bulb 2 is bad and I'm not sure but I don't think a CHE is needed for a Russian tort at night as long as the house doesn't get real cold

So, the CHE light isn't good for my tortoise everyday heating ?The top picture is a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) and it's good for night time heat because it doesn't light up. The bottom light is a compact fluorescent bulb and if you mount it horizontally it would be ok to use except it doesn't give off very much UVB>
Yes those have been known to burn torts eyes. Yvonne said if you mount it horizontal it could be ok thoughAre you talking about the Zoo med UVB bulb?
This one okay? Then you'll just have to get a bigger domed fixture. The Mercury Vapor Bulb (MVB) is what you want for your Russian tortoise. And unless your house gets very, very cold at night, you probably won't need the CHE for your Russian.
So I think I found a solution. I'm on a really tight budget so I think I'm just going to get another 50W daytime heat bulb and another zilla UVB replacement light (because that light is over 8 months old) I'm going to use both 50W daytime zilla lights at the same time. That's should work for the time being.... Right? Are these lights good for my Russian tortoise ?
