Substrate!

I am currently deciding what substrate to put my 8 month old Russian tortoise on. I have only had him for 4 days so he is on rabbit pellets at the minute which is what he was on when I bought him, however I know these can be very dehydrating for the little guys and also harm their eyes so I am eager to get him off these but don't just want to stick him on any old stuff.

I've heard coconut coir and play sand can be a good mix to put them on.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!:tort:

Quite a few of our members use coco coir. But I think they're getting away from mixing it with sand. Some use cypress mulch, and some use orchid bark (fir mulch).

I'll have a look into them other two and make sure whatever I decide to use isn't mixed with sand.

Thank you for your help!:)

You could try 100% organic peat moss in place of coco coir. Much cheaper and easier, IMO.
