Substrate options for Hermanns

I have been keeping my Hermanns in a dirt/sand substrate. I feel like I would like to try out some different substrates.

What do you all keep your Hermanns in? Or what would you recommend?

I don't keep or know much about Hermann's tortoises, but I have read that some people keep the older ones on aspen bedding. I would imagine that any good substrate would be fine. My substrate of choice is orchid bark. I just love that stuff.

I use a mixture of organic soil and coco coir. My Hermann seems to love it. He can dig in it easy as he pleases (mainly at night to sleep), yet it's sturdy enough for him to walk on without sinking and it does a great job with keeping my humidity up.

Excellent! Just the kinda answer I was looking for! I will see if I can get the coir from any pet shops around here.

Coco coir rules. I use 100% coco coir for my Russians. You can buy it in pet stores, but you can get more of it cheaper in gardening stores.
