[split] New with questions

Hi there, I am new to this forum and just looking into getting a Tortoise for me and my younger son to share. He is asthmatic and desperately wants an animal companion in his room. I already have lots of rescue Rabbits and Guinea Pigs but with the Hay this is not an option for him in his room. I am animal crazy but Tortoises are new for me and I am looking to get as much advice before we get one so I don't make too many mistakes. We went to a garden centre where they sell them yesterday and they let us hold one and said if we come back when they are quiet they will help us get all the equipment, but we live abroad and my French is terrible so I don't want to miss anything important! I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance. :0)

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

First of all, don't buy what the Garden Center wants to sell you in the way of equipment and supplies. They really don't know how to care for tortoises. Here are a couple of good articles written for the beginner tortoise-keeper:
