hi, I'm Gary from Singapore. would like to know how you guys prepare the coco coir brick for the substrate. do you soak the compressed brick in water first or just lay the entire brick over?

Hi Gary, and welcome to the Forum!

I put the brick in a 5 gallon bucket of water. After an hour or so it has absorbed the water and has fallen apart. Then I cover the bucket and tip all the water out. I further squeeze the water out by hand before placing it in the habitat.

The warmer the water the quicker it will absorb. pour boiling water on the brick and you have hot substrate ready in about 5 minutes. of course, it takes about 20 more for it to cool, lol. Welcome and best of luck!
