SPINACH!

I was told spinach is a good food for my little one and browsing online like I do I just saw a HUGE no to spinach? My heart has sunk!! Please advice guys xImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1432741435.862295.jpg

Hi Auntie, and welcome to the Forum!

The reason spinach should not be fed very often is because it binds the calcium to it. This means that the calcium gets pooped out and not used by the tortoise to make strong bones. An occasional handful isn't going to do any harm, but fed daily your tortoise will soon develop soft bones and shell.

There was a case of an iguana that was given a lot of spinach and developed calcium deficiency, due to the oxalic acid in the spinach.
