Shelvy my Russian has started to shed his skin, not in little patches but all over! Underneath his new skin is yellow like a chamois leather cloth. His scales/markings are disappearing. His skin underneath looks soft and healthy but the flaky skin coming away is very dry. Is this normal to shed so dramatically, I thought they lost just small flakes? Is there anything that I can use to soften the skin as he looks so pitiful and itchy?

My baby Sulcatas were shedding and it gave me a scare to see how they peeled a lot. I soaked them in warm water to help the flakes come off and it helped a little. You should try soaking your tortoise and see what happens[SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES][TURTLE] Hopefully it's nothing bad!

They can she for a number of reasons. Some of them are dehydration, and vitamin deficiencies. Soaking and checking over the diet to make sure you have all of his vitamin and mineral needs covered is a good idea.
