Should I cook the artichoke?

I bought some glove artichoke for my Herman's tortoise and it is very hard to rip apart. Should I cook it?

I don't cook anything for my tortoises. If it's something tough I usually leave it large so they can grip and rip it. if they can't handle that I will finely chop and add it to their salad like a topping.
