Hi, I'm wondering what is shell rot, and how common it is for hermanns tortoise hatchlings. I'm quite confused on what it looks like and don't know if buddy has it.

Shell rot is caused by conditions that are too damp for a prolonged period of time.
It is possible for any tortoise to get shell rot although it does seem like some species are more prone than others.
Having really wet or soggy substrate is usually the problem. What does your enclosure look like? Can you attach any pictures of the tortoise?

I don't personally see anything that looks like shell rot.
Is there anything that makes you think your tortoise might have it?
What is the temperature and humidity like in your enclosure?

I try to keep it up around 70% but it's usually at 50%. The soil is a little damper in hopes of getting the humidity up. I have an acrylic glass top on too trying to get humidity up.
