My red foot named Lucy is starting to grow...im not sure if this is the beginning of pyramiding or just growth...and also are pellets bad for tortoises?
Your tort has considerable pyramiding already going on not just starting. They need a high humidity but with top layer of substrate remaining dry as they are more prone to shell rot then some of the other torts. Coir on the bottom with wood chips like orchid bark on top and pouring just enough warm water into the corners will get bottom layer moist while leaving the top mostly dry.
By "pellets" do you mean pelleted food, or substrate pellets? for food, I always say fresh is best. And if you want to supplement with a good quality pellet that would be ok, but the main diet should be fresh food. You will find a lot of good info at the Tortoise Library
As for pellets as substrate, not so good either. You can't moisten pellets, and your little RF tortoise needs a moist, humid environment.
