Hi,

On a trip to Panama I took this photo of a what I thought was a Olive Ridley Turtle, after looking into how to identify turtles I am starting to doubt my initial ID. Please let me know if you need more photos.

Cheers,

Ray

Hi Ray, and welcome to the Forum!

Aren't you lucky to have been able to swim with the turtle!

I'm not up on sea turtle I.D. but we have members who are in the know.

Based on it's prety dark coloring, looks like a Black, or (East Pacific Green) Sea Turtle. Could be a regular Green. One of those, though with 4 costals.

For sure a green. Just covered in algae. Blacks are quite identifiable, they are quite dark and a bit bitter. Still in the works at being labeled as a subspecies possibly a full species.
