Do you ever 'treat' salmonella?
I thought it was just something reptiles have that is okay for them?

Our old vet mentioned 'treating' salmonella as a preventative...I never asked what she suggested to treat with...I just thought is very unusual...
Anyone else 'treat' for salmonella?

They should not be treated for Salmonella, as that could cause them to be susceptible another more powerful strain of Salmonella. I just had a snake die that I had a necropsy done on because there were no outward symptoms prior to death. Gut was a 4+ with Salmonella and a 1+ in the liver. It should not have been in the liver and a 4+ in the intestine is overload. In mot sure why this happened, but apparently this snakes immune system was compromised.

Thank you both for your reply:)

Out of curiosity...Anja, would that have been treatable if you had known what was happening? It seems, like you said, that if something is that off with the immune system that any 'treatment' may actually make things worse for the herp?

You would need to understand and remove the stress Colleen and try to treat that to boost the immune system.

Yea, highly unlikely. This snake had been in my collection for almost 2 years. Other than 2 house moves there were no other known stresses.

Interesting, they are kind of like humans. Sometimes all can seem well and their bodies just react differently.
