Last friday i brought my tortoise to the vet with a middle ear irritation. I asked him to scope while he was asleep for the operation.
Today got the news that he died this night. Tomorrow i know more after he made an autopsie.

I am realy feel sad. It is the animal on the left.

So very sorry. What a terrible loss. Always a risk in getting small tortoises scoped though.
You think that would be the reason?
The vet is the best from belgium, he should know.

Should yes. But anytime anesthesia is used can always have complications. I waited until my radiated was 9 years old to be scoped. Some vets can scope neonates because they have done it so often. But always a risk at any size and any animal for that matter. Was the tortoise already under anesthesia for the ear issue?

inner ear infection removal is not hard. i've done it with my eastern box at home.

i bought some dentist tools from amazon and rubbing alcohol. just hold the head tight so it wont retract back, and cut the area open and scope out the disgusting infected tissue. one week later he started eating and very healthy til today

anesthesia is probably the reason killed your tort. i'd rather choose a short period of pain than a large chance of death

I'm so sorry for your loss! This ear infection doesn't look too bad, just putting it on antibiotics may of done the trick. So sad!

Any idea how the ear infection happened? Is this a common issue?
