Russian Tortoise Questions

Hi I have had a Russian Tort for about 7 years now and I am sort of worried. First question, while my tortoise eats sometimes he will make weird croaking sounds. I hope it's not a RI but it might be some food in his throat. Second is this pyramiding or something else? (I got him like this)
By the way the white stuff on his shell is calcium powder.
