I'm going to the new England reptile expo in new Hampshire October 12 and I'd like to buy a hatchling Russian tortoise. I know what to look for in a healthy tortoise: alertness, clear breathing, active, ect. And what to ask: hatch date, husbandry. Are there any other things i should look for or ask?

Also, what do they usually send your pet home in? In one of those plastic cups or cardboard boxes? I'm traveling 2.5 hours to the expo and want to be prepared.

Take everything you think you may need. I would take a box or a tub that will fit in your vehicle's interior. Put a deep layer of your substrate in the bottom.

Offer the tort food and water before you start your return trip. I don't expect the tort to eat, but I would still offer the food.

Cover the top of the container to prevent the air conditioner drafts from reaching your tort. Check on your tort every 45 minutes or so during your journey.
