I have been trying to prevent some pyramiding on my Russian tortoise (1.5 years old) but its getting a but worse. I soak her 3 times a week and try and keep the enclosure quite humid. Can I find out where I could be going wrong and some tips for the future?

Show us some pictures. I don't have Russian tortoise but for Russian to get badly pyramid are not so easy. So do not stress yourself out so fast, share some photo and lots experts here will tell what to do. Or more info of your enclosure will help too. Did he getting any sun???

Let's start with some more info first.

How are you housing your tortoise? Indoors, outdoors, size, substrate, four temps, hides, water bowl, etc...? Pics of the enclosure might help.

Profile pics from the side of your tortoise, and some close ups of the carapace showing growth lines will also give us some clues.

Its mainly the front three parts of the shell that are effected. (What are those sections actually called...)!?

How long you had him? 1.5 year? he did look pyramided. Grow too fast? I don't know. Like I said, I never had Russian before. Wait for the Russian expert to answer.

I know that its defiantly not a perfect enclosure but I'm trying to improve it.

Those humidity stats are incredibly low to achieve in a house, what are you using to measure them? Really you want about 50-60% for Russians, with lots of soil-dry on top, moist underneath- to dig into. Your temps are also too warm. You shouldn't need to provide additional heat unless it drops below 10, just provide a basking spot of about 34. Normal house temperature of about 18-21 is perfect.

The substrate feels very dry to me, its like sand. I spray it with lots of water everyday though.

That's not good. How deep is it? You want at least a foot for Russians. Is it pure soil? What lighting are you using?
