My two year old Russian tortoise was getting a soak today and along with his regular poos and such, a few globs of squirming white worms came out. This has never happened before and I am certain he has not had contact with any other tortoises.
Along with that, I wash all his food before it is given and his substrate is clean.
I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow or the next day, but I wanted to hear experiences with this.

No experience here with globs of worms, but I've certainly de-wormed my water turtle to find an extremely large tapeworm in him, plus some other weird brown worm...

Most tortoises carry parasites and it's perfectly ok and harmless - It's when they get overloaded when you have to worry. He could have had them for a while and the infestation finally built up to what it is now, which makes it very noticeable.

How long have you had your tortoise, and where did you get him from?

I've heard this a few times.
As has been said , it's usually not a bother, but when they overload like this, treatment may be necessary.
Make sure you go to a specialist herp vet who will prescribe medication to control the situation.

Agreed.
Finding a live worm in the poop is a sign of a heavy infestation. Lots of worms is worse.
Usually just the eggs get passed in the life cycle of the parasite.
Time for treatment. Treatment will be for the type of worms and the size and weight of
your tortoise. Don't try to treat without a vets help.
