Hello all! My name is Smiley and my girlfriend's name is Clarissa. We live in Tampa, FL. and we just got our new Russian tortoise Tina yesterday. We've never had any kind of pets before and we wanted one that would need attention and care without having to chase after it all the time. I'm going to try to attach a picture of how she is now and I would truly appreciate it if anyone had comments or suggestions on how to improve it. Please keep in mind that we just got her yesterday and couldn't buy all the things we needed for her but we did with what we could. Today we're going to buy her a hut and maybe more dirt or pebbles because she keeps burying herself and is reaching the bottom of the enclosure.

Welcome to tortoise keeping!

Hopefully you can find your way over to the Russian tortoise section of the species specific part of the forum because you'll find lots of good advice there. The biggest thing you need to think about is how you will house your new addition. The tank you have your tortoise in right now is much too small for the adult Russian you have in there. People recommend 4'x8' enclosures for housing a single adult Russian; that is often hard to do inside, but easy to provide outside. Once you get them set up properly, tortoise care is quite straight forward though. People here are very helpful for getting new keepers started.
