After having our male for years we finally found a female for him. Got a 20.5inch female 4 weeks ago and they're getting on well, very well. Then a week after getting her and after 2 trial nests she laid 8 eggs.

Then yesterday we took the chance to buy a 17inch female. She's very nice too but looks dwarfed by the others. Its been like waiting for a London bus - nothing for ages then 2 come along at once :)

Where are you?

Once those females get up and running, they will likely give you about 100 babies per year each. Are you ready for that volume? Babies are a full time job and you will have a steady stream of them hatching for about 9 months of every year.

Hi Tom.
I'm in the UK. I think the younger female is still immature at present. Well prepared for youngsters but not proposing to incubate that volume of eggs. Thanks for the advice though

I don't think many people are breeding them over there, so this might be a great opportunity to show the other people out there a better way to start them.

I'm happy to share what I've learned from hatching and starting hundreds of my own over here. I've found some techniques for starting hatchlings that keep them super healthy and thriving in comparison to the normal techniques. Let me know...

I will Tom and appreciate your very kind offer.

We've had tortoises for about 20 years now but mainly had sucess with Testudo. However we tested your higher humidity theories with 2014 Sardinian Marginated and have had best growth rate and good carapace development. When I read your research I had a 'light bulb' moment when I realised you dont see pyramiding in terrapins and turtles (usually).
Thanks again - Pete
