Well I haven't posted on here in a while and figured I was due for some updates. The whiter tortoise is the one that I have had for a few years and the darker one is the new addition that I had purchased from Neal on here about two weeks ago. I didn't realise how large mine was untell I had put them in together and the new little guy was dwarfed. They are great friends and my original tortoise has significantly increased in activity sense the addition.

Now here comes the real fun, I know they are a little young and small to sex but I want to see what you guys think. I know for sure what sex one of them is, so you'll get to see if your right or wrong on one of them.

Congrats. How old are they and do you know the sex yet? I got one from Neal last late summer a female. She is a great tortoise. Turned four in Novemeber, I wonder if they could be related at all, @Neal?

Nice leopards. Of course one is obviously male. It's hard to tell on the other simply from the photo. It's a toss up from what I see. Thanks for sharing

The larger one is 3 years old and I believe Neal said the smaller one was about 2 and a half. I do know the sex of the larger one is a male ( the picture with the large tail) but wasn't sure of the smaller one

If you could snap some more plastron shots from various angels we could likely confirm

I was thinking the smaller one was going to be a female as she has a very small tail compared to my male (and slightly was hoping for a female) :)

More pics would help confirm. Now I would say it's not large enough to fully confirm but to give a solid guess

My females are more rounded not V shaped, like both of yours. My male was concaved and showed me he was indeed a he at two years and is V shaped. My males tail was also long at two, like your confirmed male. Could still very well be a female. Fingers crossed for you she is and keep us posted

When you say small tail do you mean short? Or skinny? Or both?
It's hard to tell from the photo what exactly the younger ones tail looks like

They're not related. This one came from another breeder.

The one you got from me could definitely go either way. The more elongated shape makes me think it is more likely to be a male, but I would expect to see a longer tail by now.

(If I'm remembering correctly, @Neal, @Tom says that 'napping' together is a sign of dominance, and not friendship)

That one is a bit of a stretch for me. I can agree with that behavior not indicative of "friendship", but I would question how the conclusion was drawn that it represents dominance as apposed to the tortoises simply enjoy the same areas of their enclosure or something else.

I fail to see how this relates to me in the context of this thread.

My two females sleep together. They eat together too. I see nothing that says one is dominating the other. I guess maybe if the same one was always laying on top of, partially on top of the other or in front of the opening, possibly.
