I think it's simple really, tortoises are survivors that's what they do.

Yes, it has been posted here before. I'll try to find it so we can re-read the comments already made.

I agree the father was caring for the tortoise. After 30 years in the shed why isn't the beak real long?

I honestly doubt it's the same tortoise.

Theories:
1) The grandtfather/father/someone was feeding and caring for it.
2) The family lied in order to gain media attention (which worked).
3) It was a different tortoise that by some circumstances found its way into the box.

Its scientifically implausible to suggest this tortoise survived for 30 years. Few life forms outside of a tardigrade are capable of subsisting that long without nutrition, water, sunlight….It's not only unlikely, its impossible.

Hello everyone,
I know that this is a really old article but I don't think anyone has posted this here before. I just stumbled upon this article and was curious about your theories on how he lived?
BTW: I would post this in the section of tortoise articles but I don't have permission to for some reason.
Thanks!

The tortoise was not in the box for thirty years, that is my theory and I am sticking with it...

I didn't know about Tardigrades. I have now read a couple articles on them. So the original stupid story has now done me some good.
