So after weeks of anticipation that really originated back in February of '09 my Yellow Foot tortoise Verne arrived tonight via the person I bought it from. I was very impressed with his handling, the guy had him in a container with substrate and a heatpack and wrapped in a towel. And he didn't seem very shy at all, he was exploring the enclosure and moving around. Anyway, without further delay, here's Verne!

also, sorry to bump my own thread, but Verne doesn't seem to be eating just yet. he ate a bit last night when he arrived but hasn't left anything i left out for him from this morning. should i be worried or is this normal as he gets acclamated to the new environment?

Sometimes it takes a week or so for them to get used to a new place. He will eat, just let him get familiar with you. Nice looking yellow foot. I have one also that's around 4 years old.

thanks for the info, apparently he just went over and ate some of the lettuce and fruit so i don't know, maybe he's been fed in the afternoon and isn't used to eating in the morning.

A few years ago I hatched out 3 yellowfoot eggs and I had a hard time getting them started eating. Did you ask the previous owner what the tortoise is used to eating? It would be best to offer the same food the tortoise is used to.

For my babies, I bought several jars of human baby food in the fruit flavors and mixed it up with the different greens. That's what finally got them started eating.

Very cute! :) Do you mind telling us about his habitat, its environment, and his diet?

A very nice Yellowfoot :)

I can see though why he may not want to eat. He isn't humid enough (like Terry says "they need to be dripping") and the light seems bright.
Here is how Terry sets up hatchling Redfoots (it works for Yellowfoots too) http://www.redfoots.com/henclose.htm

so cute. i like the yellow foots with the big yellow spots on the legs. I've considered getting one, but I've decided I just don't have room to get everything I want. :-/
