No, I don't think a tortoise of that size needs moisture in his barn. But after he's been sitting under that light for a bit, take a heat reading of the top of his shell. The light might be close enough to burn the new growth.

I've taken a heat reading and it's around 80-85° sometimes 90° and it doesn't look burned.

What a cute face. Does the barn have a door flap? It might lower your heating bill and keep the overall air temp up if you don't have one and decide to add one. I've seen people use the plastic floor protectors that go under rugs cut into trips.

I used clear floor mats made for cars. When I open it up in the morning, the temperature drops 10 to 20 degrees inside.
