Not wanting to buy a 25 lb bag I bought 2 lbs of repackaged Mazuri from
http://www.ebay.com/itm/252367881934?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Its supposed to be 'original formula' tortoise food.
When I got it I was surprised at how brown it was and how much the pellets smelled - they seem more like for beef bullion pellets than tortoise food.

Is this how the orginal formula is? I'm wondering if I got some 'mazuri monkey chow' instead.

that's very interesting my mazuri is brown but doesn't smell like beef. you could always contact the seller and express your concerns if they're a serious seller they'll address them one way or the other

You have the original? Not the LS version?

I think you got something other than the tortoise formula. They make all different recipes for many other species.

Show us a pic of what you got.

The stuff pictured in that ad looks like the right stuff.

2 pounds for 13.00
Vs 25 for 31.00

I'm in the wrong business.

I agree with Tom though the picture shows the correct mazuri

Does it get soft when you add water to it?
(The L.S. type stays hard.)
Yvonne is correct. I buy mine from a feed store and there are at least 8 different Mazuri bags. Monkey chow, Pig chow, etc. (Including an aquatic turtle formula.)
The correct one for our tortoises is the one with the red label. "Crocodilian, lizard, turtle and tortoise food". .

ok
I guess it is the right stuff.
when I soak the pellets in water for a long time, they puff up and turn a light tan color like mazuri tort food I've seen posted by others.
Doesn't really matter as my tortoise won't eat them anyway.

I bought the same stuff! From the same seller. It smells like dog food. But looks same as the picture. I also bought LS because I thought it might be better. There is a definite difference between the two, but I hope we didn't buy monkey or pig food!

You can tell at a glance by shape and color the differences in the regular and L.S. types. But to be honest, I've never seen pig chow or monkey chow, etc. and I can't say for a fact that it looks like tortoise Mazuri or not.

It looks similar, but a little different.

The bag will say what it is. There is a little tag on the bottom of the 25 pound bags.
