Mango-from hatchling to breeding adult

I was fortunate enough to get Mango from Cdmay. I let him know that Mango laid eggs for the first time recently. Carl sent me an email:

Mango is from a clutch of 8 eggs laid by Darth Maul on 4/19/07.
All but one eggs hatched.
Mango's egg (#7) pipped on 8/25/07. She was measured on 9/1/07 and was 5.25 cm. making her a rather large hatchling.

So if she's nesting now for the first time that would be right at nine years old.

Mango is the baby from Carl's XXL female, Darth Maul and his stinker Moe. @cdmay please post pics of Darth and Moe so everyone can see her parents.

Here she was in 2010 as a sub adult:


I will add pics of what Mango looks like now when I get home. ( I know a total fail)

Here are her four lovely little eggs that she laid recently (Oct. 9, 2016) The other large eggs are from a XL female-Tambaqui who has been successfully laying for quite a few years.

Enjoy! Of course I will update next year when Mango's hatchling crack out of their eggs!

I'm a bit confused. I was always under the impression that when a female lays her first clutch, the likelihood is they are infertile. Is this BS. Is it a case of as long as there are mature males about there is s good chance of fertility.

It is true, but I am ever hopeful. We will see in a few weeks if they chalk over. I'm quite impressed that she didn't break any of them as first timers usually do! Sorry pics of Mango have to wait, I got home late and it's dark. I'll get pics in the morning. With the natural light.

Nice seeing a tortoise from hatchling to adult, thanks for sharing. I hope we get more posts like this. Mango is a beautiful tortoise and it's no surprise coming from Darth Maul.

High 60F. Flip side, what is hot to you guys? 90F is merely warm for us. I know we are wimps when it comes to the cold. I actually had jeans and a long sleeved shirt on. Was still cold!

60f is sat outside pub with beer in shorts weather over here. Lol.
70f is comfortable for me.

How did I miss this thread? I am a fan of all things Darth and it's cool to see one of her neonates reach adulthood! Like mother like daughter, Mango is a beaut!
